Stephenie Charlotte Chow Designs

I have had a fascination with Chinese art history and all
things decorative since childhood. This passion has been fueled
by having lived, worked, and traveled throughout Asia, Europe,
and the Americas. My experiences are reflected in my designs
which are founded upon and emulate classical Chinese workmanship
but are modern and elegant yet simple in design.

SCC Designs was founded in 2001 to fulfill Stephenie Charlotte
Chow's ambition of creating a collection of extraordinarily
elegant, rare and unique tableware and home accessories. The
foundation is based on traditional Chinese decorative art
pieces but made of the world's most beautiful semi-precious
stones. Her vision is manifested through the craftsmanship
of the highly skilled Chinese artisans based in the Special
Economic Zone of Shenzhen.
Each piece has been personally designed by Stephenie Charlotte
Chow and each is exquisitely hand-carved. The semi-precious
stones are purchased in their original state from their country
of origin, transported to Shenzhen, then made into smaller
pieces with large tools by hand. Each smaller piece is then
specially selected to create part of the collection, making
no two stones identical and each piece of art unique.
Inspired by 18th century "chinoiserie", Stephenie
Charlotte Chow sees a revival blossoming in Europe and the
U.S. Noted authority, Dawn Jacobson wrote "Chinoiserie
is one of the strongest most consistent strains in western
taste…the style's origins lie in the extravagant tales
of Marco Polo and the merchant adventurers of the seventeenth
century."
We can see a resurgence of Chinoiserie in today's new cuisines,
all things decorative, all applied arts, and in our music.
It is a very exciting time and Stephenie Charlotte Chow's
designs reflect the glory and history of Chinoiserie, but
in a way that is elegant, rare, highly crafted and refreshingly
delightful.
